1. Patch testing can be done if a lanolin allergy is suspected.2. Patch testing is used to identify the substance triggering allergic contact cheilitis.3. Patch testing is used for patients who have chronic, recurring contact dermatitis.4. In one study, volunteers submitted to patch testing , which produced skin irritation. 5. Getting the back wet during patch testing should be avoided ( no shower ). 6. Similarly patch testing may indicate that food allergy is responsible, and the diet modified accordingly. 7. If the suspicion is high in spite of negative patch testing , further investigation might be required. 8. The diagnosis is made by patch testing with a mixture of fragrance ingredients, the fragrance mix. 9. Other forms of dermatitis are at risk of developing, and patch testing may be helpful in diagnosis. 10. Patch testing is recommended by some in cases which are resistant to treatment and where allergic contact dermatitis is suspected.
